The folk-rock musician Roy Harper could face a retrial on five charges of historical sexual abuse after a jury failed to reach verdicts.

Harper, who has worked with artists ranging from Paul McCartney to Kate Bush, was acquitted of two counts of indecent assault on Friday.

But jurors failed to agree on verdicts on two further counts of indecent assault, two of indecency with a child, and one of having sex with a child.

Harper was found not guilty of one count of indecently assaulting an 11-year-old in the mid-1970s in Worcestershire and was also cleared of a charge of indecently assaulting a 16-year-old girl in Hereford in 1980. The outstanding charges all relate to the 11-year-old.

Prosecutors have two weeks to consider whether to seek a retrial.

Harper, of County Cork, denied all the allegations.
