Folk band in bid to turn disused Scots church into studio for recording new songs

A folk band want to turn a disused baptist church on an island into their recording studio.

Tide Lines are on the verge of snapping up Mull Baptist Church on the Isle Of Mull.

The band – Robert Robertson, Ross Wilson, Alasdair Turner and Gus Munro – want to transform the building into their music
headquarters.

Built in 1891, the church sits in an elevated position overlooking Bunessan Bay and has views of the water.

It also includes a two-bedroom caravan on site as part of the sale.

Located near the village of Fionnphort, the church boasts many original features including wood cladding on the walls and church-style leaded windows allowing plenty of natural light, according to estate agents West Property.

The sales brochure also says the church – marketed at offers over £80,000 – “is in need of extensive renovating” but “has the potential to make a beautiful home”.

It adds: “Entering the church from a side door, there is a WC with a sink directly to the right and a kitchen adjacent with work surfaces and plumbing for most white goods.

“The larger hall benefits from the features such as the original leaded windows around the hall and the pulpit area.” The caravan is described as being “situated at the side of the church” and comprises two bedrooms, a kitchen diner and a bathroom.

Keyboard player Ross said: “At present, the sale hasn’t yet been completed. It’s still in the very early stages.”

The band’s latest album Eye Of The Storm, which they produced themselves, reached No1 in the independent album charts and No12 in the UK.

The Baptist Union of Scotland confirmed that the former Mull Baptist Church premises in Bunessan have been marketed for sale but no contract for the sale has been concluded.

A spokeswoman said: “At this stage, it would not be appropriate to comment further.”

Estate agents West Property did not respond to the Sunday Mail’s request for comment.
