Fog blankets much of south-east Queensland causing flight delays

Flights in and out of Brisbane Airport have been cancelled, delayed and diverted after heavy fog settled over much of south-east Queensland this morning.

The Bureau of Meteorology said visibility was down to 20 metres at the airport and Brisbane's CBD.

Forecaster Lauren Pattie said the fog was also impacting parts of the Maranoa and Western Downs.

"Places such as Roma, St George, Toowoomba, Oakey and then down in the south-east, a very thick fog set in around Brisbane at two o'clock this morning," she said.

"It's not quite as bad on some of the northern suburbs are probably, a little bit less, but definitely the CBD and inland some very thick fog.

"Because it is so thick I'd say it's a fair chance we will still see some of it lingering around after 9:00am … it will probably be breaking up in some parts."

City Cat services on the Brisbane River have also been delayed this morning.
