The driver found a dead human foetus in a plastic bag under a seat when cleaning a Bangkok No.12 bus at the depot in Huai Khwang district early on Thursday morning.

Bus driver Paiboon Chaipha, 47, said he initially found a black bag under a passenger seat on the right-hand side of the bus when he was cleaning it after finishing his shift at the depot on Thiam Ruam Mit Road about 1am.

From the smell, he thought it contained fermented fish a passenger had accidently left behind.

He opened the black bag and found a yellow plastic bag, which on examination revealed its shocking contents.

Police estimated the foetus was about five months old and said it had probably been illegally aborted.

The bus plies between Huai Khwang and Pak Klong Talad. The foetus was being examined at Ramathibodi Hospital. Police were hoping to find the person who abandoned the bag.
