FMG mine closed after worker incident

FMG closed its Solomon Hub mine in WA after a "significant incident" involving a worker. (AAP)

Fortescue Metals has closed its Solomon Hub iron ore mine in Western Australia after a worker was involved in a "significant incident".

The miner said police were called and support was being provided to employees after the incident on Thursday morning.

Police, Fortescue and government officials will investigate while the site is closed temporarily.

The Solomon site is in the Hamersley Ranges and includes the Firetail, Kings Valley and Queens Valley mines.

Fortescue shares on the ASX were up 0.78 per cent to $14.91 at 1111 AEST.
