Flytipper slapped with £3,500 fine after posing as removals man

A man who told homeowners he would remove their rubbish before dumping it in the street has been fined £3,500.

Sandor Petrovics pleaded guilty to two counts of flytipping at Manchester Magistrates Court on Tuesday after a long investigation by Bury Council and the police.

The 54-year-old, from Wainsford Walk, Oldham, was found to have ditched two piles of rubbish on the same day after posting on websites as Kevin Roy Gardening Service and telling people he could remove their waste.

In March 2018, Petrovics collected refuse from an address in Bury which was later found fly-tipped in Gigg Lane and in Wood Road Lane, Summerseat.

He was brought to justice by environmental health officers at Bury Council, working the police , who had CCTV footage and photographs proving the crimes, as well as links to a mobile number used to organise the tipping.

After pleading guilty at court, Petrovics was fined £1,026 for tbe offences and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £68 and council costs of £2,500.

Cllr Alan Quinn, cabinet member for the environment at Bury Council, said the ruling was an example of what people who flaunt flytipping laws can expect.

“Fly-tipping is disgraceful," he said.

"It blights neighbourhoods and costs council tax payers’ money to clear it up, and we will take action against the perpetrators where we have evidence to do so.

"I urge anyone who is getting rid of rubbish to use a proper licensed waste disposal operator.”
