RATCHABURI: A pickup driver was injured Monday in a spectacular accident that saw his truck literally fly off the road and land in electrical wires.
The driver, identified as Saran At-maen, was injured in the mishap and taken to hospital by first responders, police said.
As police reconstructed the unique accident, Mr Saran was on his way to a market in Si Muang district with a load of bananas.
He lost control of the pickup on a curve on the Muang district bypass, police said. His truck took to the air and flew into the electrical wires at roadside. His truck was still dangling from the wires when rescue teams arrived.
It wasn't clear if the driver fell off the truck or was extracted by the first responders.
Police believe the truck bounced on a pothole or protuberance from the road.
The truck might have first hit the pavement after its driver lost control of it, which sent the vehicle up into the air before it landed on the wires, police said.
A crane was later brought in to lift the truck from the electrical wires, said police, adding that they would question the injured driver when he was able to talk, to try to get more details on how the accident occurred.
