Flying Scotsman to travel through parts of Greater Manchester today

The Flying Scotsman is set to pass through Mossley, Stalybridge and Ashton today.

Rail fans can expect to see the famous train make its journey from about 3.30pm.

It will pass through Greater Manchester on the way to the East Lancashire Railway in Bury.

The service is part of the engine's five day appearance in Bury from this Sunday, where passengers can book return tickets to Rawtenstall for a chance to ride on the legendary machine.

The dates tickets can be booked for are August 29 and 30, and September 3-5.

The Flying Scotsman has been touring again since May, travelling all around the UK.

Tours for 2020 were cancelled because of coronavirus.

The Flying Scotsman service between Edinburgh and London began in 1862.

It was named the Flying Scotsman in 1924.
