Flying sausages keep a ballot tradition sizzling

The democracy sausage is back after its on-off relationship with the election - but with an added twist.

Even though the fundraising ritual is now technically allowed, Palmerston District Primary School still decided not to have a sizzle on Saturday. It normally raises $3000 on election day.

But its Parent & Citizens Association has come up with a novel solution, in what may be an historic first: order sausages online, by making a donation towards improving the playground.

Two local companies cook the sausages, and a Wing drone delivers them.

"We're teaming up with two of the local businesses, the Spence Grocer and Kickstart Expresso," Wing's Canberra manager, Madison Groom, said.

"Wing will match all democracy sausage sales made on Saturday with a dollar-for-dollar donation."
