Wouldn’t it be amazing to be blasted off into space? For those that can afford the rather pricey fee, it does look like a phenomenal experience.
We recently saw Star Trek’s William Shatner hop on a spaceship and make the magical journey with Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin.
Labelling his trip as the 'profound', it’s safe to say that a trip to space would be unforgettable.
But what are the numbers behind flying to space? How long do you even get up there? Here are the numbers behind it all.
6 - There are six private companies that can blast you into space if you fancy the trip.
The companies are Elon Musk's’ SpaceX, Orbital Sciences, Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin, Bigelow Aerospace, SpaceDev/Sierra Nevada Corp and of course, Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic.
6 - New Shepard can carry just six people in a suborbital capsule, this is the rocket William Shatner was in for his space trip.
8 - A ticket for Axiom’s mission to the International Space Station from SpaceX will include eight whole days in space.
10 - William Shatner spent just ten minutes and 17 seconds in space, and despite this sounding like a short amount of time, he said it was a “most profound experience.”
10 - NASA has been working with SpaceX and Boeing on their systems for the last 10 years, since then, we are slowly seeing a rise in private tickets to space.
90 - William Shatner is the oldest person to go to space at 90-years-old.
100 - A suborbital capsule like New Shepard can travel 100km into space. Pretty remarkable.
600 - There have been around 600 customers across 58 different countries have already splashed the cash for a seat on Virgin Galactic's Unity spacecraft.
1,500 - Is the price of dollars per day spent on things like clothing, hygiene, products, office supplies and sleeping bags when going to space.
2,000 - NASA figures show that it costs around $2,000 per crew member per day for food and drinks on board.
250,000 - Is the price in dollars for a ride on the Virgin Galactic with Richard Branson. A spacesuit is included in the price, thankfully.
28,000,000 - It’ll cost you around $28 million to sit with Jeff Bezos on board Blue Origin, let’s hope the seats are comfortable for that price.
55,000,000 - Elon Musk tops it off price wise though, to get on board SpaceX it’s going to cost you around $55 million.
This price will include a sleeping bag and hygiene products though. How kind!
