Flyers offense sputters in 1-0 loss to Lightning

PHILADELPHIA _ The Flyers stood toe-to-toe with the hottest team in the NHL on Saturday, but a rare bit of bad luck at home was the difference in a 1-0 loss to Tampa Bay.

Pat Maroon jammed home a bouncing puck with Matt Niskanen in the way. For all the firepower on the Lightning roster, it was Maroon who scored his first goal in 24 games to open the scoring.

Flyers goalie Carter Hart made 27 saves but lost at home in regulation (12-2-2) for the first time in three months.

The Flyers had 23 shots on goal but no sustained pressure.

Their last sterling chance was a 2-minute power play with less than six minutes left on a questionable high-sticking call on Kevin Shattenkirk against Travis Konecny. Shattenkirk was following through on a clearing pass.

But the Flyers couldn't get anything past Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevsky. The reigning Vezina Trophy winner recorded his second consecutive shutout as the Bolts won their team-record 10th straight game.

The Flyers killed all four penalties, including a four-minute minor on Konecny. They've killed 12 in a row, including five against high-powered Washington on Wednesday.

Konecny was whistled for an unfortunate double minor when his stick got loose and raked Victor Hedman in the face. Tampa Bay came into the night second for the season at 29% on the power play. During their 9-game winning streak, they clicked at 33.3%.

The Flyers got the best chance during the four minutes shorthanded, but Micahel Raffl was denied by Vasilevskiy.
