Talk about a wonderfully cathartic moment for Kevin Hayes.
On Tuesday, Hayes scored his first goal of the season for the Philadelphia Flyers in a pivotal second period against the Calgary Flames. After missing the Flyers’ first 12 games of the season due to injury, Hayes finally got on the scoresheet in his second game this year.
While the goal wasn’t anything to write home about, it’s Hayes’ celebration afterwards that is the real tear-jerker. Back in August, Hayes’ brother Jimmy Hayes tragically passed away at 31 years old. The former NHLer played 334 games in the league for Chicago, Boston, Florida, and New Jersey and retired after the 2018-19 season.
After Hayes scored his first goal of the season, he pointed to the sky in a moving tribute to his late brother.
