Flybe unveils new senior leadership team ahead of spring launch

Re-born budget airline Flybe has unveiled its new senior leadership team.

It is one of the first major announcements by the company following the news in November that it had decided to base its new head office at Birmingham Airport.

The experienced airline industry executives are now preparing for the carrier to commence services to UK and European airports in the spring.

The previous incarnation of the business collapsed into administration in March 2020 shortly before the world was plunged into the first covid lockdown.

The brand, intellectual property, stock and equipment of the former Exeter-based firm were bought later that year for a nominal fee from administrators by global private equity house Cyrus Capital which was also a shareholder in the old business.

The new version of Flybe has its head office and operations centre at Diamond House next to the airport in Solihull, with 200 staff expected to be based there and a further 400 around the UK.

Philip Saunders is Flybe's new chief commercial officer, having held senior leadership roles in commercial, sales, marketing and distribution at seven other airlines in the UK and around the world including British Airways and Air Malta.

He was also a senior executive at Travelport in the travel technology industry.

John Jackson is the new chief operations and customer service officer, responsible for Flybe's airports, flight operations, cabin crew and IT teams.

He has more than 30 years of industry experience, having held previous senior roles with Continental and United Airlines among others.

Ron Karger is chief technical officer and has more than three decades of experience in aviation maintenance and technical operations, with previous roles including senior leadership positions at Air Canada Jazz, WestJet and Pacific Coastal Airlines.

Completing the line up is director of finance Jim Comer. He is a chartered management accountant with more than 20 years of experience including with the previous incarnation of Flybe during which time he worked on its listing on the London Stock Exchange and the post-administration sale to Cyrus Capital.

Chief executive Dave Pflieger said: "We are extremely excited to have such accomplished industry leaders joining Flybe's management team.

"Each one brings a wealth of professional experience and knowledge that will prove invaluable as we look to launch the new Flybe but also create a strong community focused airline that people love."
