Flybe collapse: Loganair step in to save Edinburgh flights

On Thursday 5 March, Flybe collapsed, leaving passengers stranded in airports across the country and 30 Edinburgh flights cancelled.

However, Scottish airline Loganair has stepped in to take over the 16 routes formerly operated by Flybe, although this won't take place overnight.

The airline will take over routes from Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and Newcastle, with new flights being introduced over the next four months.

From as early as 23 March, a number of Edinburgh flight paths, previously operated by Flybe, will be replaced by Loganair.

These include Edinburgh to Exeter, Cardiff, Manchester, Newquay and Southhampton.

With the expansion of flights, Loganair will also be offering job opportunities to staff who sadly lost their jobs at Flybe.

The Scottish airline will be recruiting additional pilots, cabin crew and engineers to work at Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle airports

The airline is hoping to have 100 news roles available and will be prioritising ex Flybe staff for all of these jobs.

Loganair Chef Executive, Jonathan Hinkles said: "The plan represents the outcome of several weeks of behind-the-scenes contingency planning work, during which we’ve evaluated many routes and aircraft.

"I am confident that the plans being announced today are robust and sustainable, enabling former Flybe customers to benefit from Loganair’s high standards of customer service and on-time performance on a range of new routes, with a strong emphasis on those to and from our Scottish heartlands.”
