Fly-tipping problem off rural Stirling road increases

Fly-tipping on Stirling’s Polmaise Road area has been getting worse as lockdown restrictions ease.

Torbrex residents got in touch with the Observer this week to point out that beer cans and bottles have been discarded in the area in recent days.

One of the resident has been picking up litter during daily walks in the Cambusbarron, Gillies Hill and North Third reservoir area.

Eoin Jenkins said: “Today (Tuesday) I was walking up Polmaise Road (just up from the lodge house to the old Castle) when I came across cans strewn across the area at the popular benches with great views to the Ochils and Fife.

“There were further bags of discarded cans on the verge further up the road.

“This did not look like the result of a massive party, but was deliberate fly- tipping or should I say can-tipping.”

Another Torbrex resident who got in touch with the newspaper said: “Litter like discarded beer cans and bottles has certainly become more regular in recent weeks.

“However, it’s clear that there has been a litter problem for some time.

“You don’t have to look far to see the evidence of fly-tipping off the roadside. I regularly come across household rubbish which has been thrown over walls at the side of the road.

“I’ve started to take a trash picker with me on these walks to clean up a bit.

“However, the amount of rubbish has started to to exceed my litter collection bins at home and I had to contact the council for help. They have supplied the official orange rubbish bags which I can deposit close to an official bin where they can collect them.”

A Stirling Council spokesperson said this week: “The council is aware of this particular incident of littering and it will be cleared up accordingly.

“Littering like this is hugely disappointing and damaging to the environment and the Council encourages residents to continue to report littering via the council website.”’
