Fly-tipping 'nuisance' continues to blight rural roads in Eaglesham

An Eaglesham councillor has dubbed a “nuisance” after fly-tipping was spotted on rural roads again.

Newton Mearns South and councillor Caroline Bamforth urged the community to be aware after mess was abandoned on Moor Road and Bonnyton Road.

Bin bags, bed frames and clothes were abandoned on the stretch near Bonnyton Golf Club.

“Fly-tipping is something that happens every so often in our area,” said the councillor.

“Often it is debris, or plaster board, or things from building sites and when it happens it can be a real nuisance.

“In our area it can be harder to report, as some of the country roads can either be East Renfrewshire Council or South Lanarkshire Council.

“I would encourage anyone who spots anyone fly-tipping to report it.

“That’s the only way that we will be able to deal with this in the future.”

An spokesperson said: “We regularly monitor known fly-tipping areas and will be investigating this recent issue in Eaglesham.

“It is important that the community report people who they see blighting their communities in this way.

“Our free, 24 hour confidential Ring and Report hotline is 0800 013 0076 and we encourage residents to use it to report fly-tipping.”
