Fly-tippers dump huge trail of rubbish near East Lothian castle, despite skips reopening

Furious East Lothian locals have hit out at "disgusting" fly-tippers who left a trail of rubbish on a rural road.

The huge trail of waste was found near Fa'side Castle, a few miles from Tranent and Musselburgh.

Photos show the rubbish was dumped on a long stretch of road and it appears to have been emptied out of a moving vehicle.

There are cardboard boxes full of junk and household items, including pots, baking trays and an old rug. What looks like childrens' clothes can also be seen splayed over the roadside.

A local resident blasted the fly-tippers saying there was "no excuse", especially now that tips have reopened.

"Hopefully there's a name and address in it, that's disgusting", said another.

Throughout lockdown there was a spike in the number of fly-tipping incidents, fire crews were even called to deal with a mound of unwanted waste that had been set ablaze in East Lothian.

However, all four East Lothian recycling centres reopened at the start of June, with social distancing measures in place.

Anyone caught fly-tipping in Scotland face a fixed penalty of £200, which can issued by the police and local authorities. East Lothian council say fly tipping is a growing problem in the area as they deal hundreds of incidents every year.
