Fly tippers dump fridge freezer in middle of Kirkcaldy High Street

Feckless fly tippers have sparked fury after dumping a fridge freezer in the middle of a high street.

Appalled Record reader David Erskine snapped the unwanted appliance on its side next to a bench in Kirkcaldy on Saturday.

Scots streets have seen a rise in fly tipping since lockdown restrictions meant dumps were closed.

"It's the last thing you expect to see in the high street - it's unbelievable really," said David, 64.

"They've obviously just opened the van doors and thrown it out.

"If they've got CCTV cameras at that end of the street, they might see who's done it.

"They've closed all the council recycling places, so what do they expect?"

Cops have been forced to guard illegal fly-tipping sites as residents raise fears over rats and disease.

The Scottish Government has faced calls to reopen dumps as frustrated householders cover Scotland in a tide of rubbish amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Shocked cyclist Richard Cox gave idiotic fly tippers 24 hours last month to collect waste after leaving names and addresses in a pile of rubbish in Midlothian.

Richard had been travelling along the B6414 when he discovered the “entire contents of a van” in a field between Dalkeith and Elphinstone on Easter Monday.
