Fly-tippers block off East Lothian walking route for second time in two months

Residents in East Lothian are furious as a walking route is being repeatedly blocked off by fly-tippers dumping giant piles of rubbish.

A pile of garden waste was spotted in the middle of Brickwords Road, to the north of Tranent, on Wednesday.

In December, a huge heap of old tyres was left lying in the middle of the pathway. Locals say fly-tippers are using the area repeatedly.

A photo of the garden waste was posted in a local Facebook group with the caption "Anyone just had their garden done???.. Well here's where is ended up (brickworks rd again)!!"

Many people commented saying the fly-tipping was "disgusting" and said CCTV was needed to catch the culprits.

East Lothian Council say fly-tipping is a growing problem with more than 400 incidents reported a year.

Illegal dumping can be reported to the council online here.
