A Boeing passenger plane has crashed in an emergency landing in Guyana.

At least six passengers were injured when the Fly Jamaica plane, which was headed for Toronto, crash landed at Cheddi Jagan International Airport on Friday.

It had been in the air for about 20 minutes when the pilot indicated it was experiencing problems with its hydraulic system, Guyana officials said at a news conference.

Fly Jamaica said all 118 passengers and eight crew members were safe.

It said in a statement: “We can confirm that Fly Jamaica flight OJ256, bound for Toronto, returned to Georgetown with a technical problem and has suffered an accident on landing.

“At this time, we believe that all 118 passengers and eight crew members are safe.

“We are providing local assistance and will release further information as soon as it is available."

The Boeing 757 plane returned to Cheddi Jagan about 45 minutes after it had departed.

It happened less than a fortnight after another Boeing plane, operated by Lion Air, crashed into the sea in Indonesia, killing all 189 on board.
