Flustered Boris Johnson awkwardly refuses to commit to changing his baby's nappies

Flustered Boris Johnson awkwardly swerved questions on becoming a father again on today's This Morning.

The Prime Minister and fiancée Carrie Symonds announced they are expecting a baby and that they are also engaged last Saturday.

The boy or girl will be the sixth child with three different women for the Prime Minister, who is still married to his second wife and proposed to his soon-to-be third wife around Christmas and New Year's.

When congratulated asked if he was excited by presenter Holly Willoughby, Mr Johnson said: "Excited. Very excited."

In a savage dig, cheeky Phillip Schofield asked: "Is that it? How good are you at changing nappies? You've had a lot of experience."

The Prime Minister started stumbling over his words, stating: "I'm not going to...well...I'm not...I'm not going to...obviously."

When Holly told Mr Johnson to give it a go as part of the experience, he replied: "I expect so."

Mr Johnson was left red-faced once again when Phillip asked how the rest of the family had taken the news.

As he tried to move the conversation along swiftly, Phillip asked: "Were they pleased. Did they say congratulations?"

Grinning Mr Johnson simply replied: "It's very exciting news."

He added: "I spend an awfully long time deliberately not going on about it. There are people I loved who I don't want to put into the public debate."

Boris will become the first British prime minister to marry in office for 250 years and the first to have a child in office since David and Samantha Cameron welcomed their daughter Florence.

An early summer birth would suggest the new arrival was conceived during the Autumn, around the time that the October 31  Brexit  deadline was extended.

After telling family and close friends, Ms Symonds put rumours to rest and announced the news on her private  Instagram  profile, writing: "I wouldn't normally post this kind of thing on here but I wanted my friends to find out from me...

"Many of you already know but for my friends that still don't know, we got engaged at the end of last year... and we've got a baby hatching early summer.

A spokesperson for the couple said: "The Prime Minister and Miss Symonds are very pleased to announce their engagement and that they are expecting a baby in the early summer."

Mr Johnson has said he will "almost certainly" take paternity leave after the birth of his child with fiancée Carrie Symonds.

Asked at a press conference on the coronavirus if he would be taking the leave the PM replied: "Almost certainly, yes."
