Fluminense manager Marcao issues transfer plea to Chelsea defender Thiago Silva

New Fluminense manager Marcao has revealed that he is keen to bring Chelsea defender Thiago Silva to the club.

Silva is a product of the Brazilian outfit's youth academy and was an important member of their senior side before AC Milan came calling in January 2009.

Marcao, who has replaced Odair Hellmann at the helm, played alongside Silva during his spell at the club and has confirmed that he would like to tempt the 36-year-old into making a return to his native Brazil.

He shared details of a text message conversation between the pair in which the Chelsea defender had suggested he could be on his way back to Fluminense in the near future.

Can Chelsea challenge for the title?

“Right on time, he [Silva] saw the message and said: ‘I’m going there to assist you,” Marcao revealed in a press conference on Wednesday, as reported by Globo Esporte.

“I said: ‘Hey! Not as an assistant, come to play here, come to help us, you’ll be very welcome’. A great affection, we exchange messages every day.

“Somehow, we help out there. And in the same way he helps here. God willing, soon he’ll be here with us too, being able to help on the pitch.”

Despite Marcao's enthusiasm, it seems as if Silva could be staying at Chelsea for the foreseeable future after the defender admitted last month that he is hoping to earn a new contract with the Blues.

His one-year deal at the club is set to expire at the end of the current season.

“This is my first experience in the Premier League," Silva told L'Equipe. "I hope to continue to play well and that my contract will be renewed."

Chelsea return to Premier League action on Saturday with a trip to Everton as they look to keep the pressure on league leaders and cross-city rivals Tottenham with another victory.
