Flozell Adams, Morten Andersen among College Football Hall of Fame nominees

A couple of Spartan greats have been nominated for the 2020 class of the College Football Hall of Fame.

Former offensive tackle Flozell Adams and kicker Morten Andersen are among the 101 players nominated for the 2020 class.

Adams played for Michigan State from 1994-1997 where he was an All-American and multiple time All-Big Ten selection. Adams went on to a very successful NFL career, the great majority of which was spent with the Dallas Cowboys.

Andersen and his booming left leg were in East Lansing from 1978-1982. Andersen was an All-American in 1981 and kicked a Big Ten record 63 yard field goal that season. Andersen is already in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Michigan State Hall of Fame. He is the all-time leader in games played in the NFL with 382 and when he retired was the NFL’s all-time leading scorer. He was passed up by Adam Vinatieri last season.

In addition to Adams and Andersen, former MSU head coach Darryl Rogers is one of 33 coaches up for the honor.

Rogers coached at MSU from 1976-1979, winning a share of the Big Ten in 1978. He finished his career at MSU with a 24-18-2 record. He was the Big Ten Coach of the Year in 1977 and Sporting News National Coach of the Year in 1978. Rogers passed away in July 2018.

The announcement of the 2020 Class will be made in January 2020 in the days leading up to the College Football Playoff National Championship in New Orleans.
