Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are on the verge of rematching each other over a decade since their record-breaking fight.
The pair smashed the pay-per-view boxing record for their undisputed welterweight title bout back in 2015 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The event exceeded 4.6 million pay-per-view buys, raking in over $500million in revenue.
Now, reports claim that a rematch is “almost agreed”.
The Ring Magazine indicated that the pair, now 48 and 46 respectively, are in negotiations over a shock return.
Rumours only intensified on Thursday when Pacquiao himself confirmed that talks were ongoing.
“I'm open [to the rematch with Mayweather] and there's an ongoing negotiation," he said.
"I am speaking [to my team] every day. If that negotiation goes well and the fight materializes, then we will announce the rematch. It’s a very interesting fight. Right now, I don’t have a shoulder problem, so it’s a good fight.
"I am sure the world of boxing will be excited if the rematch can be made. I feel like we are almost in agreement with each other. There are a lot of things we agree on, but there are just a few conditions we are still negotiating. If the fight happens, it will probably happen in Las Vegas.”
The prospective rematch could materialise very quickly, with reports claiming that it could happen back in Las Vegas, but at The Sphere.
April could be a potential date for the bout, while streaming service Netflix are thought to be interested in broadcasting the event.
Mayweather is 50-0 in his professional career, and his last professional bout came back in 2017, when he faced Conor McGregor in the second-biggest pay-per-view event of all time.
Since then, he has returned to the ring to take on exhibitions, including a fight with YouTuber Logan Paul.
Pacquiao, meanwhile, has 62 wins, eight losses, and three draws from his 73 professional fights.
He fought professionally for the first time in four years back in July when he challenged Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight title, which the Mexican retained after a majority draw.
Pacquiao held the WBA super-welterweight belt as recently as 2021, when he was beaten via majority decision by Yordenis Ugas.
