Floyd Mayweather finally floored for first time - in charity basketball match

Floyd Mayweather was famously never floored in his 50-fight career in the ring, but the same can't be said on the basketball court.

Taking part in a charity match in California, the American great was attempting to mark street basketball player Larry 'Bone Collector' Williams.

The 42-year-old thought he had his angles covered, but Williams was still able to make his way past and in his attempts to stop him, Mayweather lost his footing and ended up on the floor.

The five-weight world champion was able to see the funny side of things, though, and was seen laughing as he clambered back to his feet.

Mayweather had thought of himself as a keen basketball player, but those ideas seem to come crashing down at the Monster Energy 50k Charity Challenge Match in which he was taking part.

The boxing superstar was captain of one of the sides, with the opposition led by former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski.

Other celebrities who took part in the charity game included comedian Nick Cannon, reality TV star Colton Underwood and current IBF world welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr.

The game was hosted at the Pauley Pavilion at UCLA, raising thousands of dollars and raising awareness for various charities.

Though Mayweather saw the funny side of his slip, the boxing great will be gutted to have finally been floored in his sporting career.

The 42-year-old last entered the ring in August 2017 when he stopped UFC star Conor McGregor in the 10th round of a much-hyped bout in Las Vegas.

The American was never beaten throughout a 50-fight career and won world titles at super featherweight, lightweight, super lightweight, welterweight and light middleweight.

Since his bout with McGregor, Mayweather has been linked with a return to the ring, though nothing has materialised as yet.
