Floyd Mayweather expresses interest in buying 'unbelievable' Newcastle United

Floyd Mayweather is 'retired' with a record of 50-0 (27 KOs) ( EPA )

Floyd Mayweather has publicly expressed an interest in buying a stake in Premier League side Newcastle United.

The undefeated boxer, who came out of retirement in 2017 to fight UFC star Conor McGregor, has been traveling across the UK for a media tour.

While speaking in Newcastle, he was asked about his interest in the city’s top-flight team.

“In the U.S. we call it soccer, but the Newcastle football team is an unbelievable team,” Floyd is quoted as saying by TMZ

“A hell of a team. If the people want me to buy the Newcastle team, let me know!”

TMZ also reported that Mayweather’s representatives confirmed the 43-year-old’s interest in buying a share in the club, though no negotiations have taken place.

Newcastle have been owned by Mike Ashley since 2007. The Engish businessmen has been the subject of Newcastle fans’ ire for much of his tenure, which has seen the club relegated twice.
