Floyd Mayweather accused of hiding black eye suffered in boxing fight with Deji

Floyd Mayweather has been accused of hiding his black eye on social media after he was bruised during his exhibition fight with Deji.

The boxing legend made his fifth such appearance since retiring from the sport, stopping the YouTube star in the sixth round in Dubai. Despite cruising to the win, Mayweather sustained a noticeable black eye under his left eye during the fight.

Mayweather explained after the fight that his injury was fine and he only sustained it after trying to close the gap and make the fight more entertaining. During a recent post on his Instagram account, 'Money' posted a series of snaps from a visit to Italian capital Rome, with the caption: " I like to roam from place to place and check out different historical landmarks when I’m in Italy."

However the images were re-posted on Twitter by a user, who wrote: “Bro is hiding the bruise Deji gave him.” In the pictures, the American star can be seen facing to his left, with the marking under his left eye not visible in the camera shot. However Mayweather has since posted one image of himself with the marking on display in a group selfie with fans in the UAE.

Mayweather gave an update at the post-fight press conference on the injury, explaining he believes he sustained it from trying to entertain the fans. He said: "I'm glad that Deji landed a good shot. This is part of fighting, this is part of entertaining. Everyone wanted to see entertainment and that's what we have them tonight.

"I always want you to go after your dreams and what you believe in. I didn't get to where I got to overnight. I had a great time, I couldn't do it myself. Deji, you are a tough competitor, I'm proud of you, keep up the great work."

Despite losing the fight, Deji gave a good account of himself, particularly considering the issues which arose just hours before the fight. Mayweather initiated a gloves dispute with the British star when he declared he wanted to fight in 10oz gloves, despite the contract allegedly stating the pair would compete in 14oz gloves.

However KSI revealed he implored his brother to accept the demands to ensure the fight didn't fall through at the 11th hour. "Obviously the whole situation with the gloves was a bit annoying," KSI said on his YouTube channel. But you know I asked him during this whole thing, why do you want to fight Floyd Mayweather? Is it for your legacy or is it to be in the ring with one of the greatest of all-time. Who cares if it is 14oz or 10oz? F** it fight in 8oz. Have a go and do the impossible."
