A 47-year-old woman in Florida shot her boyfriend in the armpit because he had allegedly been snoring too loudly.

Lorie Morin, of Cocoa, is accused of firing a shotgun at her boyfriend, named by police as Brett Allgood, at their mobile home on Emerald Lake Drive in Brevard County, Florida.

She was arrested on charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery, Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said.

Footage showed the victim being airlifted away from the scene on a stretcher after police were called around 10.20pm on Wednesday, March 6.

Initial statements from both Morin and her boyfriend suggested the shooting was an accident, according to Brevard County officers.

However, the ongoing investigation determined that the incident occurred because the man was snoring loudly.

Police say the domestic altercation escalated before Morin retrieved the gun and shot her boyfriend with it.

The couple’s neighbour, Samantha Bobier told ABC7: “I’ve talked to her a couple times and she’s always been really nice, and so the news is kind of shocking on it, honestly.

“To hear that it was over him snoring is kind of shocking.”

Neighbour Robert Mason added: “It’s so stupid, so bizarre that I can’t imagine that kind of behaviour.”

Brevard County Police said in a statement: “Both parties had been drinking prior to and during the argument.

They added: “The investigation determined that an argument ensued between the two over a male snoring loudly."

“The dispute allegedly escalated to a point where Morin retrieved and fired a shotgun striking the victim."

Court documents show the boyfriend had brought nasal strips with him that night to help his loud snoring, according to CTV News.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and recent reports state he was in a stable condition, recovering from his injuries.

Morin was remanded in custody at the Brevard County Jail without bond.
