Arriving empty-handed at a dinner party violates the rules of etiquette. While searching for the perfect gift from yourself or upon the host’s request can be stressful, the price can be even more shocking. That’s how this woman felt after seeing the triple-digit total of key lime pies she purchased from high-end restaurant, Luff’s Fish House.
“Going to a dinner party this evening in Boca Raton, and the hostess requested a key lime pie especially from a place she really wanted,” Florida-based TikTok creator Elise (@bocarealtalk) says while driving to her destination.
Initially, she didn’t mind doing this favor. “So, I said, ‘Fine. It’s my pleasure. You’re hosting,’” she recalls. Caught off guard by the price, the content creator lowers her voice, “Have you ever in your effing life heard of a key lime pie that costs $95? Well, I just did.” Then, she moves her head back, astonished.
Viewers Were Outraged
Elise’s video garnered over 57,000 views, where the dessert’s steep price tag sparked anger among viewers.
“No key lime pie is worth $90,” one viewer commented.
“That’s ridiculous! Was it worth it?” another asked.
As a result, many would’ve refused to buy the pie by seeking alternatives or not attending the dinner party altogether.
“And I would have left and went somewhere else,” one commenter remarked.
“Publix Key Lime. No way I’m paying $95 for a KL. No way,” a second stated.
“I would’ve called her back and said I was sick,” a third shared.
Can You Decline The Host’s Gift Request?
According to The Spruce, denying their requests is rude. This can apply to them asking to bring or not bring something. The only exception would be a small token of appreciation to express your gratitude. Showing up without having your assigned item can throw a wrench into the dinner party menu, creating more stress for the host to find a replacement.
Was The Key Lime Pie Worth It?
Because viewers demanded, Elise obliged.
“For all of you who wanna know how that $95 key lime was, I’m here to tell you,” she said in a follow-up clip. “Out of one out of ten,” she paused, scrunching her face for dramatic effect.
“Six and a half. Maybe a seven on a really freaking good day.” Although the beloved treat satisfies fans’ sweet tooth for $15 a pop, it didn’t appeal to her taste buds. “It was sweet,” she stated. “When I think of key lime pie, I think of a tart. It was fine.”
Before wrapping up, Elise emphasized, “It wasn’t horrible. That’s the main thing.”
