A Florida woman was arrested hours after she allegedly shot both her daughter and stepfather to death, according to authorities.
Alyssa Marie Torres, 29, allegedly killed her stepfather, 54-year-old Felix Rivera, and her daughter after midnight on Monday at the Waterleaf Townhomes where she had been living, according to Port St. Lucie police, CNN reports.
Police and other outlets have reported the young girl as 8 years old, but family told CNN affiliate WPTV that she was 7. At a vigil Monday night, her name was said by friends and family to be Amarilyss Martinez, though authorities have not yet released her name, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
Torres allegedly attacked her mother, 53-year-old Marisol Rivera, though she didn't shoot her and these injuries weren't life-threatening, according to authorities. The victim, who identified Torres as the assailant, is being hospitalized but is currently in "stable condition," according to a Facebook post from the Port St. Lucie Police Department.
After fleeing, police said they embarked on a manhunt, finding Torres in Fort Pierce and arresting her at about 10:30 a.m. Monday. She "cooperated with detectives and was taken into custody without incident," according to the Facebook post, which also said she "appears to have acted alone and there are no remaining suspects at large." No motive is known currently.
Torres was charged with two counts of murder and one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, according to authorities.
"Thus far she has admitted to shooting her family members and we're still ascertaining details of her statements," Assistant Port St. Lucie Police Chief William Vega said at a news conference.
Online records show Torres is being held without bond.
