Florida starting tailback Jordan Scarlett has been suspended for Saturday's season opener against Michigan, the school announced Wednesday.
Scarlett and redshirt freshman receiver Rick Wells will join eight other players coach Jim McElwain has suspended for the most high-profile season opener for the Gators in decades.
The suspensions are related to the seven suspensions handed down Aug. 14 for alleged misuse of school funds, according to a source.
Star receiver Antonio Callaway headlined the group of players previously involved in the incident. All of them remain suspended indefinitely, including Scarlett and Wells.
Freshman James Robinson also is suspended following his Aug. 21 citation for marijuana possession.
The No. 17 Gators now will face the No. 11 Wolverines without their leading returning receiver, Callaway, and rusher, Scarlett, who ran for 889 yards in 2016.
Scarlett also was suspended for the team's matchup with Michigan in the 2016 Citrus Bowl after he was cited for marijuana possession.
Wells been injured during preseason camp and has never played for the Gators. He previously was suspended for hsi involvement in BB gun incident with receiver Tyrie Cleveland.
