Florida State edge rusher Brian Burns mocked to Seahawks in round 1

After an exciting first week of NFL free agency, teams around the league are now plugging holes in the second wave of signings and tightening their draft boards as April approaches.

Unlike some clubs, the Seahawks’ transactions last week might not have been flashy, but they were able to lock up some key starters for the 2019 season, including guard D.J. Fluker and linebackers K.J. Wright and Mychal Kendricks.

But before free agency even began, Seattle made its first major move of the offseason, designating defensive end Frank Clark with the non-exclusive franchise tag.

It’s been no secret coach Pete Carroll is a fan of the pass rusher, repeatedly stating Seattle can never have enough options at the position.

On that note, NFL Media draft analyst Lance Zierlein has the Seahawks selecting Florida State’s Brian Burns at No. 21 overall.

“The temptation is to put Clelin Ferrell in this spot, but Seattle covets explosiveness, and Burns proved he has plenty of it at the NFL Scouting Combine while carrying much-needed additional weight,” Zierlein writes.

Earlier this week, the Seahawks Wire took a look at one potential edge rusher Seattle could target with each of its picks this April. Burns was selected as our top contender.
