The NCAA cleared Florida freshman wide receiver James Robinson academically, allowing the Lakeland, Fla., product to join the team during Friday's practice.
Robinson's eligibility has been in question since he signed with the Gators Feb. 1 as the team's top offensive recruit, pushing coach Jim McElwain's 2017 class to No. 10 according to 247 Sports recruiting rankings.
Due to Robinson's struggles with academics, some feared his biggest impact this year was going to be that day.
Now, the 6-foot-4, 205 pound Robinson gives the Gators a big, athletic target the team's lacks on the outside.
Robinson, who was rated the nation's No. 14 receiver and 114th overall recruit, is a mismatch. Despite missing two games in 2015, he finished with 46 catches for 865 yards and eight scores.
But Robinson must prove he can handle his responsibilities in the classroom and off the field.
The school seemingly had eliminated Robinson from consideration due to his Jan. 29 citation for marijuana possession while on a recruiting visit to Ohio State. His signing was the big surprise of UF's Signing Day.
McElwain said he and his staff will do everything to make sure Robinson succeeds.
"The most important thing is knowing he's going to have a great support system here," McElwain said. "He's committed to that."
