FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. _ The number of coronavirus cases continue to surge in Florida, with the state reporting 8,530 new cases on Sunday and 29 more deaths.
The Florida Department of Health reported Sunday that 141,075 people have tested positive for COVID-19 since the pandemic began. At least 3,419 residents have died from the new coronavirus in Florida, 29 more than on Saturday, the state reported.
For the entire month of May, Florida reported 22,473 cases. June is easily breaking that record.
On Saturday, the state reported 9,585 more people tested positive for COVID-19, triggering new restrictions and attempts to slow the spread as the state racks up a series of record-high daily totals.
As of Sunday, 1,881,897 people have been tested for the virus in Florida. Most tested negative: 1,740,822.
The number of Florida residents who have tested positive: 138,567. Another 2,508 people whose main residence is outside the state also tested positive.
