Former Florida Gators outside linebacker Jonathan Greenard may have gone 90th overall in the third round to the Houston Texans in the 2020 NFL Draft, but he isn’t resting on his laurels.
The 6-3, 263-pound edge rusher from Hiram, Georgia, made first-team, All-SEC in his final year with the Gators in 2019. However, he is not going to let the legacy of coming from an SEC school nor the day two draft designation get in the way of his goal to contribute and grow as an NFL player.
“Just to be considered in this category with these guys, it’s a huge blessing,” Greenard told Houston reporters via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. “I’m going to come in and work hard, learn from the greats, have that underdog mindset, soak up all the knowledge and wisdom so I can be successful.”
Greenard finished with 52 tackles, 9.5 sacks, 15.5 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, four pass breakups, and an interception in his final year at Florida. That type of disruption is what the Texans seek as they attempt to recover from a year where their defense wasn’t as dominant.
