Florida nursing homes report 168 more deaths from coronavirus

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. _ Florida reported 168 new nursing home deaths from coronavirus this week, with a Miami-Dade County facility continuing to account for the largest number.

Fair Havens Center in Miami Springs experienced 41 deaths, up from 33 last week. Another Miami-Dade facility, Signature Healthcare Center of Waterford, located in Hialeah Gardens, reported a total of 25 deaths, up from 18.

The facility showing the most deaths in Broward County is the Manor Pines Convalescent Center of Wilton Manors, which saw one additional death, bringing its total to 21. Another Broward facility, Nspire Healthcare Lauderhill, saw no additional deaths, with its total holding at 18.

In all, South Florida accounted for just under half of the new deaths reported this week, with 81. Miami-Dade County reported 52 new deaths, Broward reported 10 and Palm Beach reported 19.

Florida reports nursing home deaths weekly. The state previously kept the information secret, but agreed to release it after being sued by newspapers and other media companies.
