Florida man caught with full-size thermos up his ‘exit ramp’ in jailhouse body scan

A routine body scan stunned Florida’s Polk County Jail staff, showing a 51-year-old Florida man had a full-size thermos inserted rectally, according to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, who revealed the information during a press briefing.

It began over a report of a nude individual

According to Sheriff Judd, deputies contacted the man, identified as Walter Frymire, after reports of a naked individual in a public park. Frymire put his clothes back on by the time deputies arrived, so cops issued Frymire a trespass warning and released him. However, moments later, someone caught Frymire trespassing again on nearby railroad tracks, and this time, police took him into custody.

During the arrest, deputies reportedly found methamphetamines on Frymire, who has a lengthy criminal history. Police booked and processed Frymire at the Polk County jail.

The body scan ‘surprise’

Judd said that inmates entering the Polk County Jail routinely pass through a body scanner to detect contraband or hidden weapons. It was during this scan that deputies uncovered a foreign object lodged internally in Frymire’s lower torso. “He brought a thermos into the jail,” Judd said. “That’s right — he put it up the exit ramp. You know what I mean?” Rather than swallowing it, the sheriff clarified, Frymire told police he inserted the thermos from the other end.

After deputies detected the thermos, they transported Frymire to a local hospital, where doctors removed it. A specialist reportedly performed surgery to extract the object before they booked him into jail, “thermosless,” as Judd colorfully put it.

Sheriff Judd, known for his blunt and often theatrical press style, admitted he’d never encountered a case like this. “You might have thought Walter was bringing drugs into the jail. He brought a thermos into the jail,” Judd quipped while holding up what he believed was a similarly sized thermos.

Judd credited the deputies for potentially saving Frymire’s life by preventing internal injury or complications. As of Judd’s press briefing, it’s unclear whether Frymire faces additional charges related to smuggling internal contraband. As it stands, he’s charged with possession of methamphetamine, trespass, possession of drug paraphernalia, and corruption by threat against a public servant or family.
