Florida man brandishes 3-foot sword during argument with neighbour in Cape Coral, arrested

A heated neighbourly dispute in Florida took a dramatic turn when a man allegedly brandished a sword during an argument, police said.

Officers in Cape Coral arrested 41-year-old Raul Elosegui Fernandez last week after he was accused of threatening a neighbour with a large bladed weapon. He has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon. No injuries were reported.

Police said they were called to a residence on Everest Parkway at about 6.57 pm following reports of a disturbance involving a weapon. The caller told dispatchers that his neighbour had threatened him with a sword before driving away in a white Chevrolet pickup truck.

According to investigators, what began as a verbal disagreement escalated when Fernandez retrieved a sword from his vehicle. The weapon was described as having a tan handle and a metal blade measuring about three feet in length.

Police said Fernandez raised the sword above his shoulder and approached the victim while making threatening statements. The victim then retreated into his home and contacted authorities.

Officers later located Fernandez’s truck at his residence on Southwest 6th Place. The sword was reportedly visible inside the vehicle and was seized as evidence.

Fernandez was taken into custody shortly afterwards. Authorities have not released further details about the nature of the dispute or whether he has appeared in court.
