TALLAHASSEE, Fla. _ Florida Gov. Rick Scott called for the head of the state's tourism promotion agency to resign on Friday in the wake of a controversy over a $1 million contract with the rap superstar Pitbull.
Will Seccombe, the CEO of Visit Florida, has come under fire for the deal with the Miami rapper to promote Florida as a tourist destination at his concerts and on his social media sites.
The terms of the Pitbull deal were kept secret until this week, when the prospect of a lawsuit from legislators spurred Pitbull to post the entire contract on Twitter, revealing he was paid $1 million for his efforts.
"I believe it would be best for the future efforts of Visit Florida for Will to step down and allow new leadership to come in at this critical time," Scott wrote in a letter to William Talbert, chairman of the Visit Florida board of directors.
