Florida coronavirus cases jump by nearly 1,000 to more than 13,000, with 15 new deaths

MIAMI _ Florida's Department of Health on Monday morning confirmed 974 additional cases of COVID-19, bringing the state total of confirmed cases to 13,324. There were 15 new deaths reported, bringing the statewide total to 236.

Information about the deaths were not immediately available.

Of the total confirmed cases statewide, 12,925 are Florida residents and 399 are non-Florida residents who were diagnosed or isolated in the state. There are 1,592 people hospitalized in the state.

It was not immediately clear if there were any additional COVID-19 confirmed cases reported in South Florida.

Weston Mayor Daniel J. Stermer will likely be one of the new patients included in Broward County's morning report. He tested positive for the disease caused by the novel coronavirus late Sunday night and is in quarantine.

As of Sunday night, Miami-Dade County had 4,146 confirmed cases, with 31 deaths, Broward County had 1,886 confirmed cases of the disease, with 40 deaths ,and Palm Beach County had 1,000 confirmed cases, with 49 deaths.

The Florida Keys had 44 confirmed cases, with two deaths. Thirty-eight of the people infected are Monroe County residents and the other six are non-residents.
