ORLANDO, Fla. _ Orange County sheriff's deputies were searching for a construction worker who they say fled a work site after a deadly fight with his employer along Florida's Turnpike on Monday morning.
Deputies said they are hunting for Mason Toney, 28, who left the scene in a white Dodge Ram truck.
He is wanted in connection with the murder of William Steven Knight, 28, who was fatally stabbed about 10:45 a.m. EST, deputies said in an email to reporters.
The investigation led deputies to close the busy toll road at Exit 254, which is near the Beachline Expressway (State Road 528) and Orange Blossom Trail.
Traffic backed up and caused long delays on southbound lanes through the noon hour while detectives investigated the killing.
Deputies warned the public to be wary, urging anyone who sees Toney to call law enforcement.
"He is believed to be armed and dangerous," the email said in bold-face letters.
At a news conference, sheriff's spokesman Christian Marrero said detectives didn't know what the fight was about.
"We're still looking for the suspect," he said. "It is still very, very early in the investigation."
Deputies responded to a 911 call at the exit Monday morning and discovered Knight with "obvious trauma," according to an email from the Sheriff's Office.
Knight was pronounced dead at the site by Orange County Fire Rescue.
"At this time, we don't have much information, and are working to get some details for release," deputies said in the email to reporters.
Marrero urged anyone with information about the suspect to contact the Sheriff's Office or Crimeline at (800) 423-8477.
