ORLANDO, Fla. _ Orange County sheriff's deputies are searching for a construction worker who fled a work site after a deadly fight with a co-worker along Florida's Turnpike on Monday morning.
The worker was fatally stabbed, sheriff's spokesman Christian Marrero said at a news conference near the toll road's Exit 254, which was closed while detectives investigate.
The incident occurred about 10:45 a.m., causing delays on southbound lanes of Florida's Turnpike at the exit, which is near the Beachline Expressway (State Road 528) and Orange Blossom Trail.
Marrero said the two combatants knew each other, but Marrero also investigators have not determined the nature of their relationship.
He also said detectives don't know what the fight was about.
"We're still looking for the suspect," he said at an afternoon news conference. "It is still very, very early in the investigation."
Deputies responded to a 911 call at the exit Monday morning and discovered a victim "with obvious trauma," according to an email from the Sheriff's Office.
The victim was pronounced dead at the site by Orange County Fire Rescue.
"At this time, we don't have much information, and are working to get some details for release," deputies said in the email to reporters.
"We know that the victim and the suspect are known to each other," the email said.
Marrero urged anyone with information about the suspect to contact the Sheriff's Office or Crimeline at (800) 423-8477.
