Florian Wirtz admits Celtic Park atmosphere was 'fun' and inspired Bayer Leverkusen to hammer Hoops

German boy wonder Florian Wirtz admitted he was blown away by the pumped-up Parkhead atmosphere as his Bayer Leverkusen side hammered the Hoops.

And goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky rated the experience in his top three moments in football after his outstanding display between the sticks.

But rather than help Ange Postecoglou’s men, the duo claimed the buzz of a European night in the east end of Glasgow inspired them to a 4-0 victory in the Europa League.

The classy Bundesliga cracks eventually routed the Hoops with 18-year-old talent Wirtz netting. However, Leverkusen captain Hradecky had to make several fantastic saves too as Celtic threatened.

With German football still having restrictions on attendances, both thoroughly enjoyed the unique experience of a Parkhead European night.

Wirtz said: "At first, there was an incredible atmosphere in the stadium. You have to get used to it, but once I did, it was fun to play here.

"Then when we managed to get into the game and score some goals, it became even more fun. I loved it because it was consistently loud.”

And Finnish international shot-stopper Hradecky relished being in front of a full house again. He said: "The atmosphere helped get the best out of me.

"I would put this match as one of my top three experiences in football. I managed to make a few saves and they were at important moments at the start of both halves.

“But after we scored our third goal, we had the match under control. And it was another outstanding performance from us.

"Hopefully, in Germany, we will slowly go in this direction again. There is nothing better. What gave me the most joy was playing in front of a full stadium. I loved it."
