Florian Neuhaus to Liverpool transfer: Midfielder's stance revealed amid 'dream' move links

Florian Neuhaus is one of the most sought-after midfielders in Europe right now, with Liverpool said to be particularly keen on snapping him up.

The German was widely linked with a move to Anfield over the summer as a potential replacement for the now-departed Georginio Wijnaldum, who signed for Paris Saint-Germain on a three-year deal after his contract expired.

With six goals and six assists to his name in 33 Bundesliga appearances last season, Neuhaus caught the eye of scouts from across Europe.

It's easy to see why clubs are circling for the midfield star.

Here's everything that has happened so far.

Borussia Monchengladbach reluctant to sell

When you have a player as talented as Florian Neuhaus, you don't want to get rid of them.

And that very much seems to be the stance of his current club despite him being linked with a move away this summer.

Reports have suggested the club wouldn't entertain the idea of selling their star man and didn't encourage any bids for him.

"We didn't receive any offers for Florian Neuhaus over the summer," Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl said recently. "He will continue to play for us this season."

But reports have suggested the German may be available next summer – with the Reds said to be keen on a deal.

A missed chance?

The player had a £34.25million release clause before it expired at the end of May this year, meaning the Reds could have snapped the midfielder up for a relative bargain.

And his contract runs until 2024, so it would seem he won't be available on the cheap any time soon.

But there is hope

Many young German stars often end up moving to powerhouse giants Bayern Munich, but despite the fact Neuhaus and his dad are said to be big Bayern fans, no move has been agreed just yet.

In fact, from what the footballer himself has said to the press, it may well seem his path leads elsewhere.

He recently said: "I am a person who likes to dare something. I could very well imagine going abroad. I don't necessarily have to go to Bayern Munich."

And on another occasion said: "I read that my move to FC Bayern in 2022 was already a done deal. I can clearly deny that here and now."

The player certainly doesn't lack the ambition to make a big move, saying in February: "I have big goals - and something was missing. What exactly? A title. I want to win titles in my career, that drives me. A year with a title win, that would really be a dream year."
