Florian Lejeune suffers fresh injury blow as distraught Newcastle United defender stretchered off

Newcastle United have been rocked by a fresh injury blow as Florian Lejeune was carried off the field against Crystal Palace.

The French centre-back, who picked up a knee injury in pre-season Meet the 'miracle' surgeon who saved Florian Lejeune's Newcastle United season , left the pitch to a standing ovation.

After coming out worse in a challenge with Andros Townsend, Lejeune signalled to come off straight away suggesting it could be a recurrence of his original injury.

Lejeune looked in agony as he was carried off on a stretcher and covered his face with his hands as he was replaced by Paul Dummett with just over an hour gone.

His left leg was heavily strapped as he went for an instant assessment with club doctor Paul Catterson.

Lejeune had been injured in July but was back in contention by December but this latest blow looks to have ended his campaign earlier than anticipated.
