Florian Kamberi wants Rangers transfer as Hibs striker rates Ibrox switch ahead of Poland and Serie B moves

Florian Kamberi has told Hibs he wants to join Rangers on-loan before Friday's transfer deadline.

Steven Gerrard, who has already agreed a loan deal with an option to buy to sign Romanian midfielder Ianis Hagi from Genk, has made a move for the Swiss-born striker after Jermain Defoe’s injury and Alfredo Morelos also has a minor issue.

Rangers are looking to take Kamberi on loan.

Hibs want a loan with an option to buy him in any deal for around £750,000 in the summer.

Polish side Lech Poznan have already tabled a similar bid with a loan fee and Hibs want Rangers to match that package.

There is also strong interest from Italian side Virtus Entella, who are chasing promotion to Serie A but Kamberi has told his Easter Road employees that his preferred destination is Ibrox.

Hibs would be keen on midfielder Greg Docherty on-loan as part of the deal and Rangers were trying to persuade him to make that move on Thursday night.

Docherty however is also wanted by Charlton, Hearts and Shrewsbury and his preferred destination would be a return to England.

Hibs are considering letting Kamberi go to maximise his value.

The new Albanian international has played more wide under Jack Ross and would prefer to play in a more central position.

Also a loan move could raise his profile again and his value for Hibs.

They know that Christian Doidge and Marc McNulty, if they can do a deal to get him on-loan from Reading, although that would mean cancelling his Sunderland stay.

There were still financial implications because Sunderland are paying the bulk of McNulty’s wages and Hibs are struggling to match that.

Kamberi, 25, moved to Hibs on loan in 2018 and then signed a £150,000 switch from Swiss side Grasshopper.

McNulty has previously had a successful spell at Hibs which saw him get into the Scotland squad last season.

Hibs are also set to complete a deal for St Mirren defender Paul McGinn and they are also looking at other striker options, with former Celtic star Tony Watt being linked.
