Florian Kamberi transfer latest as Rangers swap deal offer gives Hibs striker second 'dream move' chance

Rangers have approached Hibs about taking Florian Kamberi back on loan with Greg Docherty going the other way.

The Swiss-born striker made a controversial switch to Ibrox on deadline day in January before the season was cut short in March.

He has since returned to Hibs and is training with Jack Ross ’ squad, although the Easter Road boss cast doubts on his long-term future this week, revealing talks had taken place between player and club to try and find a solution.

Kamberi described the loan as a “dream move” back in February which did not go down well with his manager, teammates and the Hibs fans.

The ex-Grasshoppers front man netted once in nine appearances for the Gers last season.

And it seems a return to Rangers could be back on after an approach was made to the Hibees regarding the possibility of resurrecting a similar loan deal.

Rangers have not confirmed the move but Steven Gerrard has been actively searching for a different option up front to compliment Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe. He has been linked with a move for Livingston’s Australian hitman Lyndon Dykes.

But he has two years left to run on his contract at the Tony Macaroni Arena and the Lions are thought to be seeking a fee of around £2million for him.

Kamberi has never been off Gerrard’s radar though and another loan would afford him cover in the striking positions without breaking the bank.

Docherty going back the way would suit all parties as well, with his game time at Ibrox set to be limited once again.

The former Hamilton midfielder proved to be a big hit in his short spell at Easter Road last term, playing eight times, netting three goals and generally impressing with levels of fitness and attitude.

Jack Ross is on the lookout for midfield reinforcements too after Vykintas Slivka left on the expiry of his contract, while Steven Whittaker, who was often deployed in the middle of the park, joined Dunfermline in a player-coach role.

Ex-St Mirren man Stephen McGinn has been training at East Mains over the past week, but at this stage that’s only in order to keep himself fit rather than with a view to getting a deal done.
