Florian Kamberi: Hibs want to keep Swiss striker but it could be 'out of their control'

Paul Heckingbottom wants to keep Florian Kamberi at Hibs but admits it might be out of his hands.

Kamberi was watched by FC Basel from his native Switzerland in recent weeks, but they won't be making an offer after signing Brazilian striker Arthur Cabral from Palmeiras.

That had Hibs fans breathing a sigh of relief, but Heckingbottom admitted that the final few days of the transfer window could bring an offer they can't turn down.

“I’ve always been hopeful of keeping him,” he said. “We’ll just have to wait and see what pans out. He’s come back pre-season looking fit, sharp and wanting to do well.

“We pushed him on his consistency last year and we want to keep him up there. He knows that ‘s what we’re working towards.

“The problem comes when he keeps that consistency, then he probably won’t be our player. Then someone will try and get him. We want to keep him but we’ll have to wait and see. We’ve got a few more days left yet.

“It’s ongoing all the time. There’ll be other teams watching him now. We get asked about the ones that come out in the media so we’ll tick that one off, he’s not going there.

“But something else might happen in the next few days. I want to have him and keep him here but sometimes it’s out of your control.”
