Monday Morning Quarterback (MMQB), Sports Illustrated’s weekly Monday column, featured Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores and his roller coaster ride from Super Bowl champion to rebuilding head coach over the course of the past few weeks.
One of the things noted in Breer’s column is how Flores has been sure to use his former Foxboro co-workers to help ease his transition into a new role with the Dolphins.
“…we’d had a few people leave the (Patriots) building that I’m very close to. I reached out to everyone and said ‘Hey, I’m gonna have a lot of blind spots, where are those?'”
It’s great foresight from Flores, who is currently undertaking the unenviable task of getting to know every member of the Dolphins organization while still trying to prep for the months to come.
But the best knowledge is knowing what you don’t know, which seems to be something Flores has rightfully embraced as he looks to make his mark on this long-tortured franchise.
“I try to delegate as much as I can…us (coaches O’Shea, Graham, Boyer and others) having all worked together, we work well together, we’re aligned as far as the things we believe, our core beliefs.”
The only thing that is going to tell us if Flores’ cultural shift in South Florida sticks is time. But it’s certainly admirable to see him so steadfast in his beliefs in leadership and coaching.
The supporting cast he’s surrounded himself with seems to be nothing but like-minded coaches, which will be paramount to keeping things together if and when losses pile up early on in this process.
