Florentino Perez's broken Carlo Ancelotti promise a warning for Everton manager

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is looking increasingly likely to join Real Madrid.

Real have their sights on bringing Ancelotti to Madrid for a second term in charge of the club.

Everton have been locked in talks with Ancelotti in a bid to keep him at Goodison Park but it's looking increasingly likely that the Italian returns to Madrid.

Ancelotti already has experience managing at the Santiago Bernabeu, where he won the Champions League in 2014 in the midst of a two-year stint.

Merely a few months after Real’s triumph over city rivals Atletico Madrid, Marca also put out a report which had a claim from club president Florentino Perez about Ancelotti.

"We want Carlo to be Real Madrid's Ferguson,” Perez is quoted as having said about his former manager.

At the time this was published, it was around 18 months after Sir Alex Ferguson had announced his departure from Manchester United after 26 years at Old Trafford.

Then, six months after Perez apparently referenced Ferguson about Ancelotti, he had sacked the Italian after a season saw the club reach just the semi-final of the Champions League and finish runners up to Barcelona in La Liga.

After the news was confirmed that Ancelotti had been sacked, Perez held a news conference where he made a bizarre admission.

"What did Ancelotti do wrong? I don't know," Perez said.

"The demands here at Real Madrid are very high. The affection that the players and the fans have for Carlo is the same as the affection I myself have for him."

Ancelotti is certainly no stranger to how Real operate behind the scenes, as well as the pressure that comes with managing a club of that stature.

He still has three years left to run on his contract at Goodison Park, and the club will hope that he stays put to see it out.
